Pothole Q&A: The freeze-thaw cycle Omaha World-Herald
How is the bishopric dealing with the pothole epidemic?
We asked Omaha row maintenance engineer Scott McIntyre to tackle readers' questions and comments about the occupation during an online chat Thursday. Here is a sampling of the questions and answers:
We are relocating to Omaha from Country-like Bay, Wis. Both my wife and I were appalled at the number and size of the potholes in Omaha. We have harder winters in Country-like Bay and very few potholes. Is Omaha more prone to potholes because of the number of wintry and thawing cycles or is it because of poorer road construction techniques? There were some potholes that were so in the main we thought the devil was going to reach up and snatch our modern model Honda Accord, never to be seen again.
Any time you get a freeze-thaw D — and this much moisture — it's going to do some damage. We use the same construction techniques as other cities in the Midwest. ... There is no diabolism bullet, something unique that resists it.
